New Technique of the Week
Check out our latest “Technique of the Week”! To read all about it click here! Asymmetry of the Face in Orthodontic Patients…...is the latest article being passed around PRI! Following a great weekend in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, covering Cervical-Cranio-Mandibular Restoration, Ron Hruska wanted to let you know about this fantastic article he came across: “The results showed that 79.7% of subjects with facial asymmetry had a wider right hemiface and that 79.3% of the subjects with chin deviation showed left-sided laterality. Laterality in the normal asymmetry of the face is consistenly found in Japenese orthodontic patients. The right sided dominance of the face was independent of sex, age, and skeletal jaw relationships. In this regard, the proportion of subjects with a wider right hemiface was larger at earlier ages than at later ages, while the proportion of subjects with a wider left hemiface was larger at later ages than earlier.” - Haraguchi S, Iguchi Y, and Takada K. Please contact me with any questions. A Friendly Note…If any of you have read the book, The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch you probably remember the section on “handwritten thank you notes”. This note was sent to us by a course attendee of the four day Interdisciplinary Integration course. It’s notes like these that keep us moving… I would like to commend you on the presentation of such a wonderful course, Interdisciplinary Integration! With each PRI course that I attend, I leave knowing that I have made such a great career choice! I cannot even imagine what life would be like after graduation if I would not have been introduced to your work in Postural Restoration! Thank you so much for continuing to share your knowledge. The organization of the course and welcoming environment, in addition to the overwhelming knowledge of the presentors, made for a very educational and enjoyable four days! Thanks! Management of a Female with Chronic Sciatica and Low Back Pain: A Case Report.
This is the most recent published article written by Kyndy Boyle, MSPT, OCS, PRC. This case report is a great article that outlines the positive outcomes of Postural Restoration. “After noting limited improvement, the intervention plan was revised for 13 additional weeks (10 visits) to include the following exercises to reposition and stabilize the pelvis: muscle activation of the left hamstrings, adductors, gluteus medius, abdominals, and right gluteus maximus; stretching the left posterior hip capsule; and muscle inhibition for the paraspinals.” To read the entire article, click here! Integrating PRI and The McKenzie MethodWe recently received an email asking us how to integrate the McKenzie method with PRI. We were so excited to answer this question! May 8-9, 2009 is the date for the Sanford Sports Medicine Symposium. Among several individuals speaking at this conference, two of our certified clinicians, Joan Hanson MPT, PRC and Jill Honermann MPT, PRC, will be presenting “Evaluation of the Lumbar Spine: The Postural Restoration Approach”. We are so excited for them and anxious to hear the feedback! To check out the brochure for this course, click here! PRI Repetition RecommendationsIf you have been to a PRI course before and are using PRI Non-Manual Techniques, you have probably noticed a common theme through each technique. Almost every technique instructs the patient to “hold for 4-5 deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth and relax and repeat 4 more times”. So…why 4-5 breaths in and out, why 5 times? To read the rationale behind this, click here! Cautious Considerations with Hip Flexor Training
Cautious Considerations with Hip Flexor Training is the latest article published by one of our certified clinicians, Lisa Bartels! This article highlights the importance of position when training the hip flexors. “Hip flexor training does not necessarily need to be avoided, but it is beneficial to understand the negative influence this muscle group can have on the resting position of the pelvis and spine. Athletes will be less prone to injury if training activities that inhibit the hip flexors are integrated into their workouts.” To read this article, click here! 2009 Course Date AdditionsYou’ll find that we’ve recently added a few more course dates to our schedule for this year: Myokinematic Restoration Postural Respiration
Differences Between PRI and MSIA while back we received an email from someone asking “what is the difference between PRI techniques and MRI (Sahrman) techniques”? We were excited to have the opportunity to answer this question because it gave us a chance to really express why PRI is so unique! To read this email, click here or go to “Recent Emails”! Winter Fitness Made Easy
Raulan Young, MPT, PRC recently wrote an article for the Southern Idaho Living magazine titled “Winter Fitness Made Easy in Southern Idaho”. This is a great overview on the importance of triplanar activity. Raulan does a great job educating the reader on different winter sporting activities and how each sport can benefit your posture! If you attended day four of our Interdisciplinary Integration course, you learned about Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and the positive effects squatting can have on treatment of this condition. Following the course, one of the attendees sent us this email that confirmed PRI’s position on the power of squatting… I wanted to share something else with you all, especially Lori and Ron. Lori highlighted the importance of squatting and it’s impact on constipation. My 3 year old, has struggled with constipation since birth. She literally will go poop once to maybe twice a week if she is lucky and it is always with tears and an all day event. We have tried everything, from suppositories, Miralax, Benefiber supplements, high fiber diet, Flax oil, Mineral oil, infant tummy massage, etc. Anyway when I got home Sunday night she was still awake. After the excitement of seeing each other again, I put her on the toilet in the squat position and she immediately started pooping! I was ecstatic! We did the same thing yesterday and today with the same results! This makes arecord three days in a row of her pooping without tears or pain! I truly feel that God brought me down to Lincoln for many reasons and this is definitely one of them. Thanks to you all for all of the work you do to help people. This simple thing will be life changing for everyone in my daughter’s life, as it was always so hard to watch her be so uncomfortable and not be able to help her. Thanks again! PRI in PolandMichal Niedzielski and Gregory Parfianowicz recently returned from their trip to Poland. On March 20th through the 23rd Michal and Gregory taught Myokinematic Restoration in both Warszawa and Olsztyn. This year marked a new chapter for PRI as this was the first time PRI has been presented in Poland.
