Priori Aquatics System - Essex Junction, Vermont

Last week Ron and I traveled to Essex Junction, Vermont to see the Priori Aquatics System that was recently installed in Essex Physical TherapyEstelle LeClair, MSPT, PRC owner of Essex Physical Therapy, began installation of this aquatics system in September.  Ron and I have been eager to make the trip to Vermont to finally see the aquatic system that Ron Hruska has spent years designing.  Amazing is the only word I can come up with to describe this unique, unconventional aquatic design but even “amazing” falls short of what it’s like to see PRI concepts in water.  Each station has been designed to compliment land based PRI activity that is taught in PRI courses by placing the patient, jets, and flow of water in a desirable position to achieve PRI outcomes.  You have to actually see it and feel it to truly understand what this aquatic system can do for you and your patients!

The Priori Aquatics System will be completed within the next couple weeks!  We will be offering PRI Aquatics courses in 2012 or 2013.  If you are interested in PRI Aquatics or have any questions about PRI Aquatics Systems, contact us!

We’re seeing progress but we’ve still got a ways to go!

Ron and I spent 2 days last week working on the new CD’s that we hope to have completed by the end of the year.  Several people have inquired about the new CD’s.  Let me tell you what I know up until this point…
The CD’s will be different than what we currently have on our shelves.  There will be 3 new CD’s that compliment our 3 pre-requisite courses:  Myokinematic Restoration, Pelvic Floor Restoration and Postural Respiration.  On these 3 CD’s you will find a Positioning Program, Re-positioning program, Desirable muscle programs, Inhibition as related to the course and Integration.  All of our activity will now be found on one of these 3 CD’s.  When taking our Advanced courses (Impingement and Instability, Cervical-Cranio-Mandibular Restoration, Advanced Integration), you will have already received the activity that corresponds to these courses through the pre-requisite courses.  In addition to the layout of the CD’s being different, we have also added roughly 200 new techniques.

Again, our hope is to have these completed by the end of the year.  We have spent HOURS working on the placement, progression, and wording on each and every technique but we still have a lot of work ahead of us.

PRI Illustrations

PRI Illustrations

We received some feedback from the first person that purchased a PRI Illustration:

“I just received the artwork today and it looks amazing!!! I really didn’t expect the print to have such great detail!  Thanks for the opportunity to post up some great PRI artwork! As you can see it looks great in my office and is a great conversation starter for Postural Restoration.” - Josh Owen LAT, ATC

Lori Thomsen’s Recommendations on Shoes

Lori Thomsen’s Recommendations on Shoes

Lori Thomsen, MPT, PRC recently went out and looked at the newest shoes on the market.  Using her PRI perspective, she put together a list of her top recommendations.  You can look at her list and watch a video about her selections HERE!

*Please note that this list is only a suggestion and may not be the case for everyone.  If you question a certain shoe, we suggest that you test your patient’s neutrality with and without the shoe on to make a proper assessment.

PRI Illustrations

PRI illustrations are now available in print.  Artist, Elizabeth Cunningham, has taken the science of PRI and turned it into a visual masterpiece.  Her dramatic illustration of asymmetrical patterns is one of a kind.  Choose from one of the following unique illustrations specifically drawn for the Institute to compliment your office or home.

If you are interested in ordering one of the following illustrations, please contact us!

New CD’s

New CD’s

I am excited to finally discuss the latest project that Ron Hruska and I have been working on.  We are creating new exercise CD’s that will compliment our coursework.  Because this is such a lengthy process, I have been keeping it quiet until I could see an end in sight.  The expected completion will be the end of summer.  The new CD’s will be a little different than what we have created in the past.  We have taken the time to break up each CD to reflect each specific course.  In addition to breaking up all of the activities we currently have to compliment each course, we are adding a ton of new ones.  Stay tuned for the completed project!

PRI Library

PRI Library

Over the last year, we have been working hard on the PRI Library.  We are happy to say that we are getting closer to completing this project!  The books have all been categorized and we are now working on articles.  Once we have completed this project, the PRI Library will be available for any clinician wishing to do research on PRI or anyone wanting to prepare for Postural Restoration Certification

If you know of an article or a book that you feel belongs in the PRI library, please email us!

2011 Shoe List

Greetings PRI therapists!  Many of you have e-mailed or called me waiting for our recommended shoe list for 2011. HERE IT IS!.  All of us at the Hruska Clinic spent well over two hours evaluating and trying on shoes for this 2011 list.  Please know that there may be shoes that are not included on this list that we did not examine.  I would encourage you to examine shoes that you are questioning for a good heel counter, minimal to no lateral heel give, ability for your patients to find and feel their arches and to push off their big toe when walking. Most importantly, make sure your patients can maintain neutrality with PRI tests with their shoes.  What works for one patient can be different for another.  It’s difficult to evaluate all the shoes on the market.

You will see a “S-M-L” after each shoe and this is referring to the build of the individual that the shoe works for (ie. small, medium, large).  In addition, I have identified if the shoe is motion control, stability or neutral for your added information.

I can’t identify another shoe as awesome as the 2009 Asics Foundation, but I will continue on my quest for shoe greatness.  Shoes change every 12 to 18 months and the 2010 model of the Foundation is good but it’s not “greatness” like the predecessor.  Also, don’t grab your AED when you see a Mizuno on the list.  Jason, Dave, Jen and I all tried it on and validated it’s presence on the list.  Shocking, but they did change the design so make sure it’s the WaveRider 14.

I would encourage you to go to your local running store and assess these shoes for yourself so you can make appropriate recommendations for your patients.

We hope this helps you all out!

Cheers,
Lori Thomsen

We are excited to announce…

...the newest addition to PRI, Elizabeth Cunningham.  Elizabeth started working in PRI the beginning of January after graduating from St. Olaf in Northfield, Minnesota with a double major in Studio Art and Biology.  While in the process of job searching, she graciously accepted a temporary position drawing illustrations for PRI.  She will be here for a couple of months while she continues to look for a permanent position out east.  We are extremely excited to have her here and are so impressed with what she has completed so far!

On-Line Consulting

On-Line Consulting

Hi Bobbie/Ron,
I would like to thank you both for the opportunity to see Ron treat my patient in Lincoln yesterday via Skype. Here I was in NC, and it was almost as good as being there ! I learned a lot and think this is an excellent tool for any clinician who wants to consult from wherever they are. The patient could also be in your clinic anywhere on this planet and Ron in Lincoln can see the patient from there. I hope everyone takes advantage of this great learning opportunity, I certainly plan to continue to do so.  - Sangini
