On PRI In-services…

I have a question, or rather, am seeking advise on teaching PRI to a group of people interested in your treatment approach. Has something like this been done successfully before?  I am trying to decide the best approach…didactic only, one-on-one screenings, or demonstrations in front of a crowd?  Any recommendations?

Yes, there are several therapists around the country that have been involved with in-services to coaches, trainers, and athletic departments in and around their communities.  They have actually done it differently with each group.  With some groups who are familiar with PRI and our approach, they set up more of a “screening” type session and handout 2-3 exercises per athlete to do at home.  If they appear to be a little more complex, they recommend that they come into the clinic for one-on-one treatment.

We have put together a powerpoint presentation explaining who we are and what PRI is for a lecture type inservice.  At the end of the powerpoint, I have found that a lot of therapists then pull someone out of the audience and perform an eval on them as a demonstration.

Both of these methods are very effective.  It just depends on how much prior knowledge your audience has and how much you will need to explain from the start.  You could always give them an informative overview, do a demonstration and then offer screenings a week or so later.
