On Prism Based Research…I have been having some signficant success treating toe walkers using PRI principles on restoring ZOA and gastroc inhibition. Since I have been inquiring some, I have noticed references to the use of prisms to help correct toe walking specifically with autistic kids. I obviously found this even more interesting and started to think about the integrated component and was wondering if anyone has come across any research into this realm as I haven’t had much success finding a stronger correlation from a research based perspective. We’ve had success treating anterior midline shifts, extenders, plantar flexor hyperactivity etc, with base up prisms. Most autistic children fall in the ambient world – they need more sensory-motor relaxation. You might want to look up William Padula’s work. He is well authored and his book “Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation” would be a good start. “Understanding and Managing Vision Defects” by Mitchell Scheiman talks about pediatric visual treatment for OT’s. Look for NORA based optometrists for more help on the subject. |
