On Shortness of Breath after Manual Techniques…Several hours after doing manual techniques on my patient she reports difficulty with deep breathing, heaviness over her chest and wheezing. I am looking for any input as to what may have happened and suggestions to improve her comfort until her next session. The wheezing and shortness of breath several hours after manual work is most commonly seen with patients with COPD. Other patients that this is commonly seen in are patients who lack a left ZOA. Once you have performed the manual work and “opened up” their airways, they need opposition to their left diaphragm from their left obliques to guide their respiratory process. I would make sure that post-manual work, the patient is performing an activity that works on their left abdominal wall (left thoracic abduction). |
