I was recently asked by an attendee at the Advanced Integration course why I chose the color Purple to represent the Postural Restoration Institute.
Purple/Violet is a color of purpose and good judgment. It is associated with individual linkage and integration to the universe. It symbolizes magic and mystery. It is the color purple that represents those seeking spiritual fulfillment and those who have a peace of mind…therefore, it is our Institute color and the color that reflects PRI muscle responsible for internal rotation of bones that require internal direction for fullest beneficial use.
Put some purple in your life when you want:
• To use your imagination to its fullest
• To re-balance your life
• To remove obstacles
• To calm or inhibit over-activity
• To become inspired
Ron Hruska, MPA, PT will be speaking in conjunction with Mike Arthur, CSCS at the 2013 NSCA Coaches Conference being held January 4-5, 2013, in Nashville. Their presentation is titled Postural Restoration: A New Tool for the Coaching Tool Box.
Earlier this month, over 50 people traveled to Lincoln for the Advanced Integration course! Ron Hruska, James Anderson and Lori Thomsen spent four days focusing on Integration of the pelvis and thorax. Patho and non-patho compensatory issues related to the Left AIC and Right BC pattern were discussed in detail including scoliosis, thoracic and pelvis mechanics! Ron Hruska summarized this course as “One of the strongest four day courses ever given on the integrative thoracic influences on patterns.” Also introduced for the first time in this course was a new functional test, the Hruska Alternating Reciprocal Rotation Test. This advanced test to assess thoracic-pelvis abdominal dynamic stabilization will only be discussed in the Advanced Integration course each December.
Here’s what others had to say about this course:
“The course was amazing! I admit that it was overwhelming at times, too rich, but yet everything made sense. It is a first that I can say “everything made sense” after a course. That is one aspect of PRI that continues to wow me, I have not hit a sticking point where something does not connect up with other concepts, there is no dead ends, and it is equally simple and complex. I am more hooked than before! Application of posterior mediastinum expansion, frontal plane AF and left thorax abduction over the last several days at work has been magical! I suppose this should no longer be a surprise, but the results are much easier breathing, people keep saying “it makes sense” and ” I can feel it”, and “I haven’t felt like this ever!”
“It was very helpful to have Ron, Lori and James here to explain something in a different way.”
“Really appreciated the long discussion with James on thoracic-scapular mechanics.”
“Great information on juvenile kyphosis and also James had a great discussion on gait. Great course!”
“Great job of integrating information from the previous courses.”
I am excited to announce the Postural Restoration Certified class of 2012. PRC is the result of completing multiple advanced PRI courses, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the science through completion of the PRC application, and successfully participating in both clinical and analytical testing. To date, 97 therapists have earned the designation of Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) under the direction of Ron Hruska and James Anderson.
The Postural Restoration Institute® established this certification process in 2004 as a way to recognize and identify individuals with advanced training, extraordinary interest and devotion to the science of postural adaptations, asymmetrical patterns and the influence of polyarticular chains of muscles on the human body as defined by the Postural Restoration Institute®. Certification is available to physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and occupational therapists who have completed the requirements.
PRC therapists offer a unique approach to physical medicine called Postural Restoration. This approach addresses underlying biomechanics which can often lead to symptoms of pain and dysfunction. All mechanical influences on the body that restrict movement and contribute to improper joint and muscle position are considered, examined, and assessed. Manual and non-manual techniques are utilized to restore proper alignment of the body while proper respiratory dynamics are considered. Treatment encompasses prevention and lifetime integration for long-term successful outcomes.
Congratulations!
This year’s PRC class includes: Julie Banning, Donna Behr, Torin Berge, Jaime Lawrence Blanton, Megan Bollinger, Lori Brinkman, Donna Parise Byrne, Craig Depperschmidt, Jesse Ham, Joanna Lee Hess, Dan Houglum, Kristi Jagels, Brett Johnson, Donna Olivero, Anita Panagiotis, Becky Setlik, and Emily Soiney.
At our annual Advanced Integration course this past weekend, we presented the first PRI Director’s Dedication Award. This award was established to recognize an individual’s ongoing dedication to their advancement in PRI. This award which is decided upon by the four Directors of PRI will be presented annually from this point forward. This year we recognized two outstanding individuals, Susan Henning and Joe Belding to honor and thank them for their ongoing dedication to PRI!
Susan attended her first PRI course in 2003, and since that time has attended a total of 22 courses! She attended the very first Advanced Integration course in 2005 and has missed only one Advanced Integration course in the past 8 years. She earned the designation of Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) in 2008. Joe attended his first course in 2005 and has attended a total of 18 PRI courses over the past 7 years. Joe also attended the first Advanced Integration course in 2005, and has missed only two Advanced Integration courses in the past 8 years. He too earned the designation of Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) in 2008.
Check out our new featured interview with Jason Masek HERE. Jason was a member of the first Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) Class in 2004 and practices at the Hruska Clinic in Lincoln, NE.
The new and highly anticipated Non-Manual Techniques CD Collection is very close to being completed, therefore we are now accepting pre-orders! The three PRI introductory courses: Myokinematic Restoration, Pelvis Restoration and Postural Respiration now have a corresponding Non-Manual Techniques CD that is organized by muscle, inhibition and integration and placed in an order in which you would want to isolate, inhibit or integrate.
Here is a breakdown of what programs are included on each CD:
